This is a break in the Slow Nomads timeline reflecting events that we feel are interesting enough to warrant such an interruption. The normal timeline will resume as soon as possible.
As most are aware, this blog is not written in real-time. Early on in our adventures, it was usually only a week or so behind. This year however, as we moved from place to place, staying no more than one month keeping up has become more difficult. The published blog entries are just entering Norway, and yet we actually arrived in Norway in mid-July. In fact, after Norway, there remains Iceland, Montreal, and Wisconsin to write about and publish before we arrive at the place that is the subject of this entry.
Enough introduction though.
We have lived for almost three years without a home base. Back in June of 2014, we sold our house and cars, and moved our post-garage-sale-future-home-startup-kit into storage. And our travels as nomads began. Oh the freedom we enjoyed, planning, and shifting locations every 4 to 12 weeks. This year we traveled a bit more quickly, living in seven different countries in a time span of seven months. When we prepared for our return to North America, the “planning steam” ran out and we began to discuss the possibility of setting up a home base back in Florida.

Oh, the freedom we enjoyed, planning, and shifting locations every 4 to 12 weeks. This year we traveled a bit more quickly, living in seven different countries in a time span of seven months. When we prepared for our return to North America, the “planning steam” ran out and we began to discuss the possibility of setting up a home base back in Florida.
As we talked over our return to Florida and travels in 2017 and beyond, we realized the desire for a home to return to with our own stuff. Initially, we considered purchasing a condominium or small townhouse but realized that it would require more responsibility and less flexibility for future multi-month travels.
After much thought, the decision was made to return to familiar surroundings and find an apartment that would meet our needs. A great place was located quickly not far from our former home, we signed the lease, and within five days had moved everything out of storage, and began living in our new flat.
Thus we now have a base of operation back in Florida. After unpacking and settling in, work on the blog is resuming. We look forward to sharing the adventures on the fjords of Norway, the fire and ice of Iceland, the beautiful city of Montreal, and great times with family in Wisconsin as soon as possible. Please have patience; I believe that the photos and stories of these wonderful places will be worth it, and once the blog has been caught up we will be on our way to even more adventures … somewhere.
